The best time to visit Uttarakhand is during March, April or September and October. Summer is the time for the Char Dham Yatra and adventure sports. The weather is also cool and pleasant.
Travel during the peak monsoons (July to mid-September) is not advisable.
Winters from November through February are good for rafting, wildlife spotting and enjoying the snow.

By Air: Uttarakhand has the two domestic airports, the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun and the Pantnagar Airport, close to Nainital. Dehradun has a good frequency of flights from across the country, while Pantnagar Airport has restricted connectivity.
By Road: Uttarakhand has a well-connected network of roadways, making it the best way to travel through the state. NH 108, NH119, NH109, NH123, NH121, and NH 72A connect Uttarakhand with other states of India. NH34 connects Delhi with Haridwar and Rishikesh. The Uttarakhand Transport Corporation runs huge number of buses to connect with other states. The Char Dham Highway connects all the pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand. Road travel is a good way to experience the beauty of the state.
By Rail:
The major railway stations in Uttarakhand are the Kathgodam, Dehradun, Haridwar, Rudrapur, Pantnagar and Tanakpur, which ensure good connectivity to the cities of Delhi, Lucknow and Kolkata. Totally there are around 16 railway stations in the state.
Some of the major trains that go to Uttarakhand include the Dehradun Express, Jana Satabdi Express, Nanda Devi Express and Doon Express.
