The best time to go to Tamil Nadu is between the end of November and mid-March. The weather is neither too hot nor too cold during this time, making it perfect for sightseeing.
Rainfall in Tamil Nadu (Jul to Dec) is moderate and a good time to visit the hill stations and enjoy the beauty of the numerous waterfalls across the state.
During summers (Mar-Jun), the weather remains consistently hot and humid making travel not too comfortable.

By Air: The state has four international airports in Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruchirapalli and Madurai. There are three other domestic airports in Salem, Tuticorin and Puducherry.
By Road:
Tamil Nadu has a robust public transport system that covers almost all parts of the state. Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) operates the public transport bus services in Tamil Nadu. The state has a good network of roads, making it extremely delightful to explore the state by self-drive options.
By Rail:
The Southern Railway headquarters is in Tamil Nadu. The state has a well-developed railway network.
The state capital, Chennai, has direct express trains to all metro cities across the country. The Dr M.G. Ramachandran Central Railway Station in Chennai is the main gateway railway station to trains towards the north and Chennai Egmore is the hub of trains towards the south.
Chennai, Coimbatore, Katpadi, Madurai, Salem, Erode, Dindigul, Karur, Nagercoil, Tiruchirapalli and Tirunelveli are some of the major railway junctions.
The Nilgiri Mountain Railway is a UNESCO World Heritage Site connecting hill station, Ooty to Mettupalayam in the foothills. The centenary-old Pamban Bridge, one of the oldest cantilever bridges, is an over sea bridge connecting Rameswaram in Pamban island to the mainland.
Chennai has a well-established suburban railway network as well as a Metro service, making it extremely easy to commute between towns.
