Winters are pleasant and a wonderful time to explore the beauty of the state. It is time for outdoor activities like trekking, bird watching. This is the time when the Hornbill Festival is held in Nagaland.
Monsoons are from May to September. The state sees medium to heavy rainfall depending on the region. The heaviest rainfall is usually in August and September. Tourism is not much during this time. The locals are usually busy with farming during this season.
Summers in Nagaland are not too hot and one can enjoy touring the state during this time.

By Air:
The nearest Domestic Airport is Dimapur Airport, which is around 74 km from Kohima. Dimapur Airport is well connected to major cities of India. For international flights, the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati or Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata are closest. From Guwahati or Kolkata, one can reach Nagaland by overnight buses.
By Road: Nagaland State Transport (NST) has developed good roadways in the state, and has bus services from Guwahati, Assam. Private buses also ply from Guwahati to Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung in Nagaland. Taxis are available from different parts of the state and from Guwahati as well. One can reach Nagaland by flying into Dimapur and taking a share cab to Kohima, which is at a distance of about 50 km.
By Rail:
The nearest Railway station is located in Dimapur. There are a number of trains from Guwahati to Dimapur, which is at a distance of about 290 km away. The Dimapur station is well connected to Guwahati, Kolkata, New Delhi, Chennai, Jorhat and Dibrugarh.
