Winters are a good time to visit Meghalaya. December is comparitively warmer than January and February. The weather is well suited for trekking expeditions. Explore the Living Root Bridges and the state's National Parks. Don't forget to pack woollen clothes.
Monsoons are the time you can wake up to misty mornings and lush greenery all around. Meghalaya is home to Cherrapunjee and Maysynram, two of the rainiest cities in the world. It is not the ideal time to explore the area.
The summer weather is comfortable to venture outdoors. This a good time to enjoy the culture of the state. The Shad Suk Mynsiem festival in April of the Khasi tribe is a unique experience to be enjoyed during a summer visit.

By Air: The airport at Umroi, 35 km from Shillong is the state's only airport. Other options are flying to the Gopinath Bordoloi Airport at Guwahati, which is 128 km from Shillong. There are taxis available at both airports to reach Shillong. A helicopter service is also available from Guwahati to Shillong.
By Road: Meghalaya by road is stunning and makes for a truly adventurous road trip. The Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) is well connected to several cities within Meghalaya as well as to its neighbouring states. NH40, which connects Guwahati to Shillong is well-maintained. During monsoons, road travel can be challenging and is generally not recommended.
By Rail:
The state does not have any train station. The nearest railhead is at Guwahati, around 100 km from Shillong.
