Winters in Lakshadweep Islands are between September and February. This is the best time for water sport activities, be it swimming, sailing, scuba diving, snorkeling, parasailing and more. The weather is pleasant making it a nice time to soak in the sun. Don't forget to experience the Film Festival (November) or the 15-day Island Tourism Festival (January), if you are visiting the islands during that time.
Monsoons see heavy rainfall with high humidity. Visiting the beach and water sports are not advisable during this season. Annual festivals of the state like the Music Festival, Monsoon Festival (August) Food Festival (September) are good experiences during this time.
Summer in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands starts in April and goes on till July. The afternoons tend to be quite hot, early mornings and evenings are perfect for exploring. The waves are gentle during this season making it a good time to be in the sea. The 3-day beach festival is held during the month of April and is definitely a dont-miss if you are visiting then.
By Air: Lakshadweep has an airport in Agatti, which is connected to the Kochi airport in the state of Kerala, India. The flights take around 1 hour 30 minutes to reach Lakshadweep. From Agatti, boats are available to the other islands. Helicopter transfers are also available from Agatti during the monsoon.
By Sea: Lakshadweep Island can be reached by ships operated from Kochi. Seven passenger ships – MV Kavaratti, MV Arabian Sea, MV Lakshadweep Sea, MV Lagoon, MV Corals, MV Amindivi and MV Minicoy operate between Kochi and Lakshadweep islands. The passage takes about 14 to 18 hours depending on island chosen for journey. The ships offer various classes of accommodation raning from AC First Class to second class and bunk class with seating.
Local Transport: To travel between each island of Lakshadweep, one can use the ferry or hire a helicopter. During the fair season, high speed vessels operate between islands.
